Method

A practice method designed to make mistakes informative.

1. Define a narrow question

“Improve my calligraphy” is too broad for one practice session. “Release pressure earlier at the base of the oval” is specific enough to test.

2. Look before writing

Learners compare several samples and identify the feature that changes. This trains observation before muscle memory takes over.

3. Make a small number of attempts

A row of carefully observed strokes is more useful than a page filled automatically. Typical practice lasts 25–40 minutes.

4. Compare with explicit criteria

Review slant, width, pressure timing, spacing or symmetry depending on the exercise. Avoid vague labels such as “nice” or “bad”.

5. Record one next adjustment

Finish with a specific observation that can guide the next session. The notes turn repeated practice into a sequence of small experiments.
